Every year there is a Architecture and Design College First-Year Student competition where we must follow prompts, each received throughout the week, for a final review on the following Monday. We do not have our professors help through this. It was truly an amazing and educational experience. I was a finalist and honorable mention in the competition! (Top 10) Prompts: 1: Monday: Using two materials of your choice, construct a volume with the dimension of 3"x9"x18". 2: Wednesday: Insect the primary volume with a secondary volume. 3: Friday: Graphically show the hierarchical relationship between the two volumes (18x24 in portrait).
To create my model I made a to scale model on Rhino 7 and then laser cut all the pieces. I used a table saw and 2 rectangular blocks of oak wood to make the supports at the bottom with 0.5in of space for each laser cut piece to fit. I used paper and paint to make the interior form. You can check out a video demonstrating the movement in the model on my Instagram.
